Kitchen Knife

I was planning in making this one for my personal use... but was foiled by the wife whos friend and mentor is having a birthday this week.

She picked out the handle material:

  • Traditional Buffalo Horn Bolster
  • Pre-ban Elephant Ivory Spacer
  • Stabilized Buckeye Burl Handle
  • Hidden Stainless Steel pin
  • 7.75" Blade; 13.25" OAL
  • 1095 High Carbon Steel Blade - Gray Etched Flat Finish

New Commission Complete...

Made for and architect and his brother.

And the first knives that I've made with a modern-style maker's mark.

    • Blade: Hand Forged High Carbon Cable (like that used for large elevators and cranes)
    • Blade Length: 4"
    • Overall Length: 8.5"
    • Bolsters and Pin: 303 Stainless
    • Spacers: Brown Paper Phenolic
    • Handle: Stabilized Box Elder Burl

Finally Back!

Including the time it took us waiting for someone to come out and fix our blown out UHAUL tire on I-10, the trip took us 21 hours.

About 5 hours more than planned, which led to 5 hours less sleep... which means we are 5x more exhausted from trying to get things cleaned up and put away.

Man.. I've tired

So with a little luck I'll have the rest of the stuff done before heading back for my final weekend in Nashville next week.

Next Week:

  2. Make 3 work benches (two 6FT and one 4FT);
  3. Install the shop 220V electrical
  4. Fly to Dallas
  5. Engineer the technology and security systems for a cancer center and university.
  6. Fly to San Antonio

Next Weekend:

  1. Fly to Nashville
  2. Finish Packing the Nashville House
  3. Rent and load the truck
  4. Drive with the truck from Nashville to Houston (12+ Hours)

Preparing for the move back to Houston

Our tenants have moved out and I have 10 days to get the house ready for the move back.  That means pressure washing, painting external trim, patching and painting all interior rooms, putting in an electrical sub-panel and 220V connections for the grinder and air compressor... and building new workbenches.

Did I mention that I'll be in town for 4 of those days, day tripping to Dallas or San Antonio or 3 and in Nashville for the weekend... AAARRRGGGHHHHH!
